The ClearTap™ F20 Filter
The ClearTap™ F20 Filter is an in-line Carbon-block filter that filters water controlled from a proprietary valve cartridge developed by American Standard Inc. This valve cartridge directs cold water and cold water only to the filter when the single control handle is shifted into the filtering mode. There is a separate waterway, built into the faucet, which carries the filtered water from the filter to the end of the spout of the fitting so that there is no chance of mixing filtered and unfiltered water.
The Technology
The ClearTap™ Filter, model F20, consists of a 11 ½ inch long by 1 inch diameter Carbon-block with a ¼ inch hollow core that is capped on both ends. This Carbon block is made by extruding a binder, carbon particles and additional special materials to make a solid filter core. Water flows from the outside of the block, through the block, into the hollow center of the block and out through the bottom cap. The top cap seals the filter into the filter canister.
The ClearTap™ Filter, model F20, filter core is a combination of materials: binder, activated Carbon, Silver impregnated Carbon and ATS (a special lead trapping material).
The binder is a plastic material that serves to adhere all of the various core components together. The binder is an inert plastic, polyethylene, which serves as a matrix. This matrix gives the core its solid structure.
The activated Carbon in the ClearTap™ Filter, model F20, adsorbs Chlorine from the water. Due to the high surface area of the Carbon particles, a great deal of Chlorine can be taken out of the water. The efficiency of the Chlorine reduction is 98.9% as measured and certified by NSF International, an independent standard setting and certification agency. The activated Carbon in the ClearTap™ Filter, model F20, also removes odors and improves taste in the water.
The ATS in the Carbon block filter core is a special material that traps Lead in a lattice structure, cleaning the water of this element. The ClearTap™ F20 filter reduces the Lead in water by 99.3% as measured and certified by NSF International, an independent standard setting and certification agency.
